SplitPay allows you to spread the cost of a purchase online with Red Rat over 4 fortnightly or 8 weekly installments, interest free! There's no sign up costs or hidden fees. The only time you'll pay extra is if you miss a payment.
Do i have to spend a certain amount to pay with SplitPay?
Yes, you must spend $80 or more to pay with SplitPay.
If i have an EZPay account, can i still apply for SplitPay?
Yes, but any Splitpay payments are additional to your regular EZPay payments.
What do I need to apply?
You'll need a current New Zealand Driver's License or Passport, credit or debit card and your contact details. That's it!
Which cards can I use with SplitPay?
We accept credit and debit cards from Mastercard and Visa which were issued in your country of residence. We do not accept foreign issued cards for overseas banks or pre-paid cards.
How do I pay?
At the time of purchase you can select whether you would like to pay via 4 fortnightly payments or 8 weekly payments. Once selected and your order placed, you will be given a payment schedule and each payment will be charged automatically to your selected card.
When will my first payment be taken?
Your first payment will be made at the time of purchase and then on each day as set out in your payment schedule.
Can I change the date of my next payment?
No, once you choose your desired number of repayments (4 fortnightly or 8 weekly) you are unable to change the date that your payments are due on. Alternatively, you can pay an installment early which will mean that payment won't be taken on the scheduled day but will resume for any remaining payments as scheduled.
Can I make an early payment?
Yes! You can pay all or some installments early. Just log into your Red Rat online account and you can select which payment you would like to make early in the SplitPay dashboard by clicking 'Pay now'.
Can I pay some of an installment?
No, you must pay the amount set out in your payment schedule as they fall due.
What happens if I miss a payment?
If you miss a payment, a late fee of $10 will be added to your total outstanding. A maximum of 2 late fees apply per order. Each late fee will be spread amongst the remaining installments. If the amount you owe remains outstanding, we may instruct a debt collection agency to to collect the amount you owe, incurring an additional $45 fee. A maximum of 1 fee per order is applied.
How can I make up a missed payment?
You can make up a missed payment by logging into your online Red Rat account and paying via the SplitPay dashboard.
What can I do if I'm suffering financial hardship?
If you're experiencing financial hardship, please contact us on 0800 728 728 and speak to one of our friendly team members.
Can I return my order and get a refund?
Yes, you can return your order by sending it back to the Red Rat Distribution Centre as long as it is eligible under the Red Rat returns policy. Once your return is accepted, we will cancel any future installments and refund any money owing to the original payment source. For more on returns, click here.
Can I return some of my order and get a refund?
Yes, you can return part of your order by sending it back to the Red Rat Distribution Centre as long as it is eligible for return under the Red Rat returns policy and the amount will be taken off your total to pay. If you have paid off your order, you will be refunded any money already paid to your original card. For more on returns, click here.

Red Rat offers an extended purchase limit for approved EZPAY customers to shop now, pay later
What do I need to apply for EZPAY?
You must be over 18 and a New Zealand resident. You need to provide one primary or two secondary IDs, and a proof of bank account. Please note that EZPAY is currently only available for New Zealand customers
How do I sign up for an EZPAY account?
Simply complete our EZPAY application form online here, submit it through online or visit your
nearest red rat store with a copy of your ID and proof of bank account. You can also call 0800728728 to request a home visit if possible (depending on the distance from the nearest store).
When can I shop?
If your EZPAY application is approved you can shop after a successful direct debit payment.
Identity verification requirements?
The Amended Identity Verification Code of Practice 2013 permits the following options for documentary verification of name and date of birth.
One of the following:
New Zealand passport.
New Zealand certificate of identity.
New Zealand refugee travel document.
New Zealand firearms licence.
Overseas passport or similar document issued for the purpose of international travel which: Contains the name, date of birth, a photograph and the signature of the person in whose name the document is issued; and is issued by a foreign government, the United Nations or an agency of the United Nations.
A national identity card issued for the purpose of identification that: Contains the name, date of birth and a photograph of the person in whose name the document is issued and their signature or other biometric measure included where relevant; and is issued by a foreign government, the United Nations or an agency of the United Nations.
Two forms of identification, being one of:
New Zealand full birth certificate;
Certificate of New Zealand citizenship.
Citizenship certificate issued by foreign government.
Birth certificate issued by a foreign government, the United Nations or an agency of the United Nations.
And one of:
New Zealand driver licence.
Valid and current international driving permit.
New Zealand driver licence
And one of:
Confirmation that the information presented on the driver licence is consistent with records held in the National Register of driver licences e.g. through Centrix SmartID.
A document issued by a registered bank that contains the person's name and signature, for example a credit card, debit card or EFTPOS card. Note: The bank card must have the customer's name embossed on the card. A copy of the credit card must not be kept in either paper or scanned form and the credit card number must not be written down.
A bank statement issued by a registered bank to the person in the 12 months immediately preceding the date of the application.
A document issued by a government agency that contains the person's name and signature (e.g. a SuperGold Card).
A statement issued by a government agency to the person in the 12 months immediately preceding the date of the application (e.g. a statement from the Inland Revenue Department).
