Credit makes many things possible. But it needs to be properly managed. We take all our responsibilities under the Responsible Lending Code very seriously.
We know that people often find it convenient to spread the cost of purchasing clothing and footwear across a few weeks using our credit facilities. Our view is that everyone should be entitled to access good credit facilities, provided that we think they will be able to meet their repayment obligations without problems. There is a role for responsible lenders. We’ll try to help, but if we don’t extend credit to you, there will be a good reason. We have very strict processes designed to prevent customers over-extending themselves. We can only lend to people who have a permanent residential abode. We don’t lend to anyone who is already over extended and having difficulty repaying loans. And we don’t lend to anyone who is unlikely to be able to meet their repayment commitments after we’ve taken their income, housing, food and other expenses into consideration.
